1 - Research

Style & Design

What architectural style & design are you building or what is the current style & design of your home (modern, traditional, colonial, ...).

This will be a factor in determining the type of garage door (panel, roller, tilt or other)

Materials & Colour

What cladding materials do you like - timber, steel, aluminium, glass, polycarbonate, composite or other.

What Colorbond, powder coat or timber look colours do you like.

Materials like timber may also allow staining or painting

2 - Measurements

Opening

Measure the width and height of the garage opening, noting any significant changes from one side to the other (L to R).

Headroom & Backroom

Measure the space between the top of the garage opening and the ceiling (headroom) & the distance from the garage opening to the back wall of the garage (backroom).

Also identify any obstructions like pipes, ducts or beams that may get in the way of door operation.

This will help determine the type of garage door (panel, roller, tilt, other) that will fit your opening.
